Thailand is home to many famous towns that are well-loved by travellers, from the capital of Bangkok up to mountainous Chiang Mai and Chang Rai, then down the coasts to Pattaya and Phuket, these names conjure up images and memories of lush tropical forests, white sand beaches, and hours of fun and relaxation. Of course, those aren’t the only wonderful places to see that Thailand has to offer, there are many more lesser known locales that have much to recommend them to the visitor!
Today we will focus on Rayong, a delightful small city on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand. Rayong has transformed from a sleepy fishing village into a regional attraction, a place where business and pleasure meet and profit from their association! Rayong is one of the best places in Thailand to hold an event, be it a meeting of hobbyists or a business conclave, the city offers the perfect location with a Rayong seminar hotel that can provide its guests with everything they might need to host their attendees in the grand style of Thailand’s famed hospitality. Of course, an event doesn’t mean that everyone will be spending all of their time on the hotel’s lavish and completable grounds, they will want to get out and see the sights, drinking in the local flavour. Well, Rayong delivers, here are just some of the attractions that make this city by the sea such a special place to be!
Rayong’s Old Town – The town was founded over 100 years, with construction beginning during the reign of King Rama V. The old town is located on scenic Yomjinda Road, the first road to lead to the province. A great many of the town’s original wooden buildings remain, giving the area the distinctive flavour of yesteryear, you will feel as if you have literally stepped into the past. Many of them still maintain the same businesses they have since their construction, dry goods shops and food markets, while others have been converted into cafes and museums, while still carefully preserving the original architecture that makes them so charming.
Ruksame Bridge – This small, friendly riverside community is another taste of Rayong’s storied past, with wooden plank walkways to stroll around on. The village is best known for the picturesque old-style suspension bridge that connects to the mangrove forest that lies just across the river, the plankwalk leads into its mysterious depths where local wildlife can be seen in their natural habitats. Be sure to check out the traditional fisherman’s boat that invites you to come inside and see what life at sea is like. It’s safe to say that this locale is one of Thailand’s most unique, and should not be missed!
Mae Ram Phueng Beach – Did you think we would forget to mention the many lovely beaches of Rayong? One of our favourites is Mae Ram Phueng Beach, it features glorious white sands to stroll along next to the aquamarine sea. If all that salty sea air makes you hungry there are plenty of quaint beach cafes, we recommend the seafood, fresh right out of the bay!
